About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Borussia Dortmund secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen in their Bundesliga clash on Tuesday, 13 January 2026. The result was largely expected given Dortmund's superior form and league position compared to Bremen. Dortmund dominated the match from the outset, with Nico Schlotterbeck (GAP +1.6%) opening the scoring in the 11th minute. His early goal set the tone for the home side, who controlled the game with a disciplined defensive performance and effective attacking transitions. The second half saw Dortmund continue to assert their dominance. Marcel Sabitzer (GAP +3.4%) doubled the lead in the 76th minute, showcasing his ability to find space and finish clinically. The final blow came in the 83rd minute when Sehrou Guirassy, a substitute, added a third goal, sealing a comprehensive win for Dortmund. In terms of tactical adjustments, Borussia Dortmund made five substitutions, bringing in Emre Can, Daniel Svensson, Karim Adeyemi, Sehrou Guirassy, and Jobe Bellingham. These changes injected fresh energy into the team, particularly Guirassy, who made an immediate impact off the bench. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, made three substitutions, introducing Cameron Puertas, Samuel Mbangula, and Olivier Deman, but these changes failed to alter the course of the match. Key players for Dortmund included Gregor Kobel (GAP +4.2%), who was solid in goal, and Waldemar Anton (GAP +6.6%), who was instrumental in defense. For Bremen, Marco Friedl (GAP +4.2%) was one of the few bright spots, although his efforts were not enough to prevent the defeat. This victory strengthens Dortmund's position in the Bundesliga standings, keeping them in contention for the top spots. For Werder Bremen, the loss highlights the challenges they face in climbing the table, as they continue to struggle against higher-ranked opponents. The result reflects Dortmund's current form and their ability to capitalize on their chances, while Bremen will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities moving forward.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
